Lago di Braies

Lake Braies (Pragser Wildsee) lies in the South Tyrolean Dolomites at 1,496 m above sea level. It is about 1.2 km long, 300 to 400 m wide and up to 36 m deep. The rock face of the Seekofel (2,810 m) rises above the shore. The Hotel Pragser Wildsee stands on the water's edge, rowing boats can be hired in summer, and in winter curling is played on the frozen lake.

The circular path is about 3.6 km long, has roughly 86 m of ascent and takes around one to one and a half hours; it is level along the west shore and steeper, with steps, along the east shore. In peak summer season, access by car is allowed only with a valid reservation, for example for a parking space, a bus or accommodation; without one you can arrive on foot or by bike (as of October 2026). The rules are adjusted every year, so check them in advance on the official websites. The lake is also easy to reach by bus from Niederdorf (Villabassa), Welsberg (Monguelfo) or Toblach (Dobbiaco).
