A calm alpine lake ringed by Dolomite peaks, with an easy path around the shore and the Sorapiss group reflected on still mornings. Come early in the day, as the road from Auronzo fills up in summer.
Lake Misurina lies at an altitude of 1,754 m in the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, in the province of Belluno, and is regarded as the largest natural lake in the Cadore. Its name probably derives from the Ladin "meso ai rin", meaning "among the streams", a reference to the abundance of water in the area. From the shore you can see the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Sorapiss, Cristallo and the Cadini di Misurina, among others.
A flat panoramic path runs around the lake and is suitable for families. Those who want more ascent can climb to Col de Varda and the Rifugio Città di Carpi, or tackle more demanding routes such as the one to the Rifugio Fonda Savio. Cortina d'Ampezzo is only about 12 km away, and in summer buses also run from Cortina and Auronzo.
