Turner Falls Park
Davis, OK
A tall waterfall in the Arbuckle Mountains that spills into a swimming pool, with caves and a castle-like stone tower in the park. Arrive early on summer weekends, as the lot fills, and bring water shoes for the rocks.
Turner Falls Park near Davis lies in the Arbuckle Mountains and has Oklahoma's largest waterfall, at 77 feet (about 23 meters). Honey Creek has two natural swimming pools. The park is said to have served as a recreation area since 1868 and calls itself the oldest park in the state; it is named after Mazeppa Thomas Turner, who settled in the area in 1878 with his wife Laura Johnson. The city of Davis took over the area in 1919 and bought about 370 acres from the family in 1925. Today the park covers about 600 hectares (1,500 acres) with three caves, hiking trails and a walk-in castle from 1930.
In summer the park is open from early morning into the evening, with shorter hours in winter. On summer weekends and holidays there is tiered parking, and the lots closer to the water cost extra. Children 12 and under must wear life jackets in the water. Camping, RV sites and cabins are available. Allow half a day to a full day.
