Mormon Row Historic District
Moose, WY
A line of homestead barns and houses set against the Teton Range, including the much-photographed Moulton Barn. Reached on Antelope Flats Road off US-191; arrive before sunrise for the best light and fewer tripods.
In the 1890s, Mormon settlers from Idaho came to Antelope Flats between Moose and Kelly and established a total of 27 homesteads here. The alluvial soil east of Blacktail Butte was better suited to farming than most land in Jackson Hole, though water was scarce. Six building clusters survive, dating from 1908 into the 1950s, among them the barns of T. A. and John Moulton. The district has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1997.
From Jackson, drive north on US-191 past Moose Junction and turn right onto Antelope Flats Road; after about 2.4 km (1.5 miles) you reach Mormon Row. There is parking on both sides of the road, and one lot has a vault toilet. At sunrise the Teton Range glows behind the barns, and with a little luck you will also spot bison and pronghorn.
