Camping
Mazama Campground is the only RV-friendly campground in the park. It opens around mid-June, and reservations are required from July to September. The park prohibits overnight RV sleeping outside designated campgrounds, including pullouts and parking areas. Check the National Park Service page for the current opening date and booking rules before you plan the trip.
Getting around
Large RVs and towed vehicles are allowed on all park roads, but Rim Drive and Pinnacles Road are narrow and winding, with tight curves, drop-offs and no shoulders. For unhitching, the park names the large parking area at Mazama Village and pullouts along the entrance roads; all wheels must be on pavement. In winter, access is limited to Highway 62 via the West and South Entrances.
FAQs
Is there more than one campground for RVs?
According to the park, Mazama Campground is the only RV-friendly campground inside the park. Outside the park boundary, campgrounds in the surrounding area are an alternative; check their rules separately.
Can I drive around the rim in October?
Possibly, but not reliably. The rim roads close to cars on November 1 or earlier with the first heavy snowfall, and reopen in May or June. Check road status with the park.
Which entrances stay open in winter?
The South and West Entrances stay accessible all year via Highway 62. Rim Drive and the North Entrance are closed for the season because of snow and ice.
