A two-tier waterfall on the North Umpqua pouring through columns of basalt. A 0.4-mile trail with stairs leads to a viewing platform; the access road off OR-138 is narrow and the lot small.
Toketee Falls lies on the North Umpqua River in the Umpqua National Forest. The water funnels through a narrow gorge and drops in two tiers over a wall of columnar basalt that erupted from vents north of Mount Bailey around 750,000 years ago. Sources disagree on the exact heights, but all agree that the lower tier, at roughly 25 m (80 ft), is the taller one.
The Toketee Falls Trail is about 0.6 km (0.4 miles) one way and leads down a staircase of almost 200 steps to a viewing platform. Allow about an hour for the round trip, including time for photos. The trailhead has a toilet and picnic tables, but no drinking water. The site is for day use only and overnight stays are prohibited. Spring to fall is the recommended season; as the trail is popular and often busy, mornings or weekdays are a good choice.
