Park City Main Street
Park City, UT
The historic silver-mining main street of Park City, lined with restored false-front buildings, galleries and cafés on a steep slope. Park at the lower end and walk up; the local trolley helps on busy days.
Park City was founded in 1869 and grew thanks to silver mining, for example the Ontario Mine. A fire destroyed large parts of the town in 1898, and in the 20th century it fell into decline for a time. Main Street is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. The town sits at about 6,900 feet (2,100 m), well above Salt Lake City (about 4,200 feet, or 1,290 m).
Skiing brought the turnaround, starting in the 1960s. The Sundance Film Festival was held here from 1981 to 2026; from 2027 it moves to Boulder, Colorado (as of October 2026). You can explore the steep slope on foot, visit galleries and cafés, and allow about one to two hours. It is best to park at the lower end and walk uphill; on busy days a trolley helps.
