Mirror Lake, Uinta Mountains

An alpine lake at 3,100 m below Bald Mountain, just off the Mirror Lake Highway (Utah 150). A recreation pass is required to stop along the byway; the road is closed by snow from about November to late May.
Mirror Lake lies at 3,060 m (10,050 ft) in the Uinta Mountains in Duchesne County. Pass Lake sits directly above the lake, and its overflow feeds it; the Duchesne River begins at the outlet. The lake gets its name from the near-perfect reflection of mountains and trees, seen from a roadside viewpoint or from the shore. Rainbow, brook, and tiger trout live in the lake. On its shore are a Forest Service campground with 94 sites and a boat ramp for non-motorized boats.
The lake is on the Mirror Lake Highway (Utah 150), a 68 km (42 miles) route starting in Kamas. It is usually open from mid-May to mid-fall. Driving it is free, but a pass is required if you stop at recreation areas. Cell reception is patchy. Allow one to two hours for the lake and half a day for the whole route.
