A broad pedestrian main street lined with Gothic, Baroque and Art Nouveau facades, with the Gothic Cathedral of St Elisabeth standing in the middle. Leave the car at the edge and spend a few hours on foot.
The Old Town of Košice is the oldest district of the city and dates from the 13th and 14th centuries. Its centre is Hlavná ulica, the main street, lined by the Gothic St Elisabeth Cathedral, St Michael's Chapel and the Urban Tower. There are also palaces, museums and the State Theatre. Parts of the medieval fortifications can still be seen, for example in the Lower Gate and the Executioner's Bastion.
Visit the East Slovak Museum, the Slovak Technical Museum and the craftsmen's lane, Hrnčiarska. Allow three to four hours. The old town is small and easy to explore on foot; park on the edge and wander along the side streets.
