Pine-fringed viewpoints about 1,700 feet above the green water of Flaming Gorge Reservoir, next to a small visitor center. The rim trail is easy and fenced in places.
Red Canyon Overlook sits on the south rim of Red Canyon above Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Utah, right next to the Red Canyon Visitor Center at 2,260 m (7,417 ft). The canyon is about 430 m (1,400 ft) deep and 210 m (700 ft) wide. From the viewpoints you look down onto the reservoir; with luck, you may spot bighorn sheep and mule deer.
To get there, take the well-signed Red Canyon Road, which branches off Utah 44 at mile 3.5, about 64 km (40 miles) north of Vernal. The paths to the viewpoints are wide, paved, and accessible; the viewpoints are open year-round, while the visitor center opens seasonally from late May to early September. The Red Canyon Rim Trail also starts here. Allow one to two hours.
