Łącka Dune

A shifting sand dune more than 30 m high in Słowiński National Park, between a lake and the sea. Park at Rąbka and walk or take the electric shuttle; go early to avoid the heat.
The Łącka Dune (Łącka Góra) is one of the highest shifting dunes in Słowiński National Park; depending on the source, its height is given as 30 to 42 m. The wind moves the sand by a few metres a year. From the top you look out over the desert-like landscape of sand, Lake Łebsko and the Baltic Sea.
The starting point is Rąbka. From there you can reach the dune on foot or by bicycle along a forest track of about 5 to 6 km; in season, electric carts also run. The climb through the sand takes some fitness, but it is not considered extreme. Allow several hours for the round trip, including time at the dune. A national park entry ticket is required. It is best to go early in the day, because there is no shade on the sand in the midday heat. For current information on paths and parking, check with the park authority.
