Sa Calobra

A cove at the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis gorge, reached by a famous road of hairpins that loops under itself. Large motorhomes should not try it; buses have priority on the tightest bends.
Sa Calobra lies on the north-west coast of Mallorca in the municipality of Escorca, where the Torrent de Pareis meets the sea. The MA-2141, opened in 1933 to designs by the engineer Antonio Parietti, is about 9.5 km long, has 26 hairpin bends and starts at around 682 m. It is famous for the “Nus de sa Corbata” (“tie knot”), a 270-degree loop. At the bottom, a short stone tunnel leads to the gorge and the pebble beach.
Parking at the bottom is scarce. The road is narrow with a single-lane section and is unsuitable for large motorhomes. Avoid the period from morning to afternoon, when rental cars and cycling groups fill the road; early morning or late afternoon is quieter. An alternative is the boat from Port de Sóller.
