A lighthouse at the end of a spectacular ridge road above sheer cliffs, with the Mirador des Colomer on the way. In summer private cars are banned for much of the day and a shuttle bus runs; check the current rules.
Cap de Formentor is the northern tip of Mallorca, in the municipality of Pollença. The 13.5 km road from Port de Pollença, completed by the engineer Antonio Parietti in 1925, winds up in many hairpins to the lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1860–1862 and entered service in 1863. The Mirador es Colomer lies at around 230 m, and the summit of Fumat reaches 384 m. Along the way, further viewpoints and the 16th-century watchtower Talaia d’Albercutx are worth a stop.
Parking at the lighthouse is scarce, especially in high summer, so drive early in the morning. From 15 May to 18 October 2026 the stretch from Formentor beach to the lighthouse is closed to private vehicles daily from 10:00 to 22:00 (as of October 2026); bus line 334 runs during that time. Check the current rules before setting off. Allow about half a day for the drive with stops at the viewpoints.
