Sheer 70 m cliffs at the tip of the Crozon peninsula, facing the sea stacks of the Tas de Pois. A coastal path runs along the top; keep well back from the edge in wind.
The Pointe de Pen-Hir marks the tip of the Crozon peninsula in Brittany. The quartzite cliffs, around 475 million years old, rise up to 70 m above the sea. Offshore lie the Tas de Pois, rocky islets that are the remains of the former cliff face. A granite cross commemorates the Breton soldiers of the Forces françaises libres (Free French); it was built between 1949 and 1951 and unveiled by de Gaulle, according to most sources in 1960.
From the car park at the viewpoint it takes less than ten minutes to walk to the cliffs. If you want to stay out longer, follow the GR 34 coastal path, which is about 13 km there and back. As a tip, spring and autumn mornings often bring particularly clear light, while midsummer is busier. The terrain can be difficult for small children and people with walking difficulties; keep well back from the edge in wind.
