Kitch-iti-kipi

Kitch-iti-kipi in Palms Book State Park near Manistique is a spring that pours about 10,000 gallons (roughly 38,000 liters) of water per minute out of fissures in the limestone. The water stays at a constant 45°F (7°C) all year, and the spring is about 12 m (40 feet) deep. Estimates for the size of the oval pool vary by source, from roughly 60 to 90 m (200 to 300 feet) across. Lake trout, brown trout and brook trout live in the clear water. In the Ojibwe language, the name means "big cold spring."

A paved path, 0.2 mile (just over 300 m) long, leads from the parking lot to the dock. There you board a raft with a viewing window that you pull across the spring yourself by turning a hand wheel on a cable; it holds more than a dozen people and is wheelchair accessible. The park dates to 1926, when Michigan acquired the spring along with 90 acres (about 36 hectares); the Civilian Conservation Corps built the raft and dock.
