Passo Sella
Selva di Val Gardena, Italy
A 2,240-metre pass right under the walls of the Sassolungo and the Sella group, on the road between Val Gardena and Val di Fassa. The pass car parks fill early in summer; the road is usually closed in heavy snow.
The Sella Pass links the Val Gardena in South Tyrol with the Val di Fassa in Trentino, in the heart of the Dolomites. The road reaches about 2,240 m, while the pass itself is quoted at roughly 2,218 to 2,245 m. Above it rise the Sella group and the Sassolungo (Langkofel). It is around 12 km from Canazei. According to the tourist board, the pass is open all year round except on rare occasions, and there is no toll.
If you want to stop, parking is limited and charged, and roadside parking is prohibited. In summer, early morning is therefore the best time. Around the pass there are walks such as the circuit of the Sassolungo (Giro del Sassolungo) and via ferratas, for example at Col Rodella. In winter the area is part of the Sellaronda ski circuit. Bus line 471 runs between Selva and the pass, every 15 minutes at peak times.
