Wilseder Berg

Wilsede, Germany

Nature

The high point of the Lüneburg Heath, reached on foot from the car-free village of Wilsede, which itself is accessible only on foot, by bike or by horse-drawn carriage. The heather blooms purple in late summer, so plan a visit for August or early September.

At 169.2 m, the Wilseder Berg is the highest point in the Lüneburg Heath. It formed during the Saale glaciation as part of an end moraine and lies within the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park, which the Verein Naturschutzpark has looked after for more than 115 years. At its foot lies the heath village of Wilsede, where motor traffic is restricted; you can reach it on foot, by bike or by horse-drawn carriage.

You can park in Undeloh and Niederhaverbeck, among other places, and walk to Wilsede from there. The village has the Heath Museum "Dat ole Huus", a farmhouse moved to Wilsede in 1907. The nature park offers around 16 waymarked circular walks of 3.5 to 13 km. Allow half a day to a full day for the round trip including the summit. The heather is at its most colourful in late summer, especially in August and September, and it is also busy then.
