Vojak, Učka

At 1,401 m, Vojak is the highest peak of the Učka massif, which rises above the Istrian peninsula and the Kvarner Bay. On the summit stand a stone lookout tower and an information point. In good visibility the view reaches across Istria, the northern Adriatic islands and Gorski Kotar, towards Venice and the Alps. The area forms Učka Nature Park, covering 160 km²; the Učka bellflower, an endemic of the region, grows here, and griffon vultures and golden eagles breed.

The usual starting point is the Poklon Pass at 922 m, where hiking trails begin and e-bikes can be rented. Entry to the park is free. Pack a jacket, as it is windy and cooler at the top than on the coast, and go on a clear day so the view is worth it. Allow at least two hours.
