Snoqualmie Falls

Snoqualmie, WA

Nature

A broad waterfall that drops into a gorge, seen from an observation deck a short walk from the parking area. Go after rain for the fullest flow, and visit on a weekday if you can, as weekends get crowded.

Snoqualmie Falls plunges 268 feet (82 m) and is about 100 feet (30 m) wide on average. The site is sacred to the Snoqualmie people: the first man and first woman are said to have been created here, and prayers rose with the mist to the Creator. In 2019 the Tribe bought the falls and the surrounding land. Plant 1, built at the falls in 1899, is regarded as the world's first completely underground power plant.

The grounds are a small park with a viewing platform, a lodge and picnic areas. A trail drops about 374 feet (114 m) toward the base of the falls. A visit takes roughly one to two hours. With more than 1.5 million visitors a year it is crowded on weekends, so a weekday is better.
