Sabbaday Falls – Kancamagus Highway

A short walk to a waterfall in a gorge on the 34-mile "Kanc". It is one of the best fall-color drives in New England.
Sabbaday Falls lie in the White Mountain National Forest, about 15 miles (24 km) west of Conway on the Kancamagus Highway. The waterfall drops in a series of cascades through a narrow rock flume. An easy, evenly graded gravel path leads from the parking lot to the falls in about 15 minutes, with a stone staircase over the last stretch. Interpretive panels explain the geology. Swimming is not allowed.
The Kancamagus Highway (NH 112) is 34.5 miles (55 km) long and links Lincoln with Conway; it was completed in 1959 and has been a National Scenic Byway since 1996. Fall foliage is a main reason for the drive, with the peak season running from early September to mid-October. The parking lot is often full then, so arrive early. The lot is paved and has picnic tables, but no restrooms or drinking water; a fee is charged from spring through fall. The road is considered suitable for RVs.
