Multnomah Falls
Bridal Veil, OR
Oregon's tallest waterfall, 620 feet in two tiers, just off I-84 in the Columbia River Gorge. Timed permits may apply in summer.
Multnomah Falls drops a total of 189 m (620 ft) in two tiers: the upper tier measures 165 m (542 ft) and the lower 21 m (69 ft). Underground springs on Larch Mountain feed it year-round, supplemented seasonally by snowmelt and rain. The 1915 Benson Bridge spans the falls about 32 m (105 ft) above the lower tier, and a paved path leads up to it. At the base stands Multnomah Falls Lodge, designed by A. E. Doyle in 1925.
With more than two million visitors a year, the waterfall is the most visited natural recreation site in the Pacific Northwest. From May through September you need a timed-use reservation from recreation.gov. You can reach the falls from a parking lot on Interstate 84 or via the Historic Columbia River Highway. The lodge restrooms are closed for renovation through November 2026 (as of October 2026). If you have more time, trails such as the Wahkeena Trail range from under 2 km (1.2 miles) to several kilometers.
