Horseshoe Bend
Page, AZ
The Colorado River makes a 270-degree turn 1,000 feet below an unfenced rim. There is a parking fee and a 1.5-mile round-trip walk.
About 8 km (5 miles) below Glen Canyon Dam, the Colorado River loops tightly around a rock spur. The overlook sits at about 1,280 m (4,200 ft), with the river roughly 300 m (1,000 ft) below. The area is part of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and the parking lot and trail are run by the City of Page.
From the lot on US 89 at the southern edge of Page, a hardened trail leads 2.4 km (1.5 miles) round trip to the rim; at a relaxed pace, each way takes 20 to 25 minutes. There are two shade structures along the trail but none at the overlook itself. A fenced viewing platform has been in place since 2018, but most of the rim is unfenced. It is quietest at sunrise and somewhat less crowded in the late afternoon; from May through September the lot is busiest between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Bring at least 1 liter (1 quart) of water per person. RVs have their own parking area, and drones are prohibited.
