Fonts Point lies in the Borrego Badlands of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, about 16 km (10 miles) east of Borrego Springs along County Road S-22. The exposed layers of conglomerate, sandstone, claystone, and siltstone record about four million years of Earth history. The viewpoint is named after Father Pedro Font, chaplain on the Anza expeditions of 1775–76.
The access road is about 6 km (4 miles) long and consists mostly of hard-packed sand and dirt; because of soft sandy sections, four-wheel drive is strongly recommended. Without it, you can park at the turnoff and hike the 13 km (8 miles) round trip. Come early in the morning or in the late afternoon to avoid the midday heat; the spot is also good for stargazing.
