The Oxia viewpoint lies about 8 km beyond the village of Monodendri in Vikos-Aoos National Park in Epirus. The platform looks into the Vikos Gorge, which the Guinness Book of Records lists as the deepest canyon in the world in proportion to its width (a claim that is disputed). The gorge lies in the Pindus Mountains, and the Voidomatis river flows through its lower part. From here you can also see the “Great Pit”, an offshoot of the main gorge.
Park by the road and follow the path as soon as the “Oxya” sign appears. A popular hiking trail also leads down into the gorge from Monodendri. Keep away from the cliff edge and wear sturdy footwear.
