A mountain with a hole right through it, about 160 m long, carved by the sea during the Ice Age. A steep path from the car park reaches the hole in about 20 minutes.
Torghatten is a 258 m mountain on the island of Torget in Brønnøy municipality, Nordland. The island is linked to Brønnøysund on the mainland by the Brønnøysund Bridge. A hole about 160 m long, around 35 m high and 15 to 20 m wide runs right through the mountain. It formed during the Ice Age: ice and water worked out the loose rock, and later the waves of the sea played a part too. About 100,000 visitors come each year.
The walk to the hole takes about 20 minutes on a well-made, slightly steep path, and the full circuit one to one and a half hours. At the foot of the mountain there is a campsite with cabins and a beach restaurant. Allow around one to two hours including time at the hole. Sturdy footwear is advisable.
