Kentucky Horse Park

Lexington, KY

History

A working horse farm and park with the International Museum of the Horse, parade of breeds shows and the graves of famous racehorses. The park has a large campground with full hookups.

Kentucky Horse Park, near Lexington, opened in 1978 and is at once a horse farm, a venue for international equestrian competitions and a theme park. The grounds cover 1,224 acres (about 495 hectares) and lie off Interstate 75 at Exit 120. The International Museum of the Horse is a Smithsonian Affiliate. Since 1979 the Hall of Champions has been home to famous racehorses, including Forego, John Henry and Cigar; today its residents include Accelerate and Roy H. A statue of Man o’ War at the entrance stands over the horse’s grave, and there is also a life-size statue of Secretariat with jockey Ron Turcotte.

During the main season (through November 8, 2026), programs such as the Hall of Champions show are scheduled (as of October 2026). In 2010 the park hosted the World Equestrian Games, the first held outside Europe. Plan at least half a day for the museum, shows and a walk around the grounds.
