Cape Flattery is the northwesternmost point of the contiguous United States, on Makah land near Neah Bay. From the trailhead, 0.75 miles (about 1.2 km) of boardwalks, stairs and dirt sections lead down to four viewing platforms, losing 200 feet (about 60 m) of elevation along the way. The round trip is therefore about 1.5 miles (2.4 km). You look out to Tatoosh Island and Snake Rock and, with luck, may spot gray whales and sea lions.
A Makah recreation permit is required to visit. There is a day-use parking lot at the trailhead with a few spaces for RVs, plus restrooms; picnic tables stand near the last viewing platform. Camping and overnight parking are not allowed. The trail is open daily from dawn until 30 minutes after sunset. Stay on the main trail, keep dogs on a leash and pack out your trash, as there are no garbage cans.
