Seven Sisters Country Park

The Seven Sisters are chalk cliffs in East Sussex between the mouth of the Cuckmere near Seaford and Beachy Head near Eastbourne. They form part of the sea-eroded stretch of the South Downs. The country park covers about 280 hectares of chalk cliffs, meandering river valley and chalk grassland. In 1926 conservationists, including the poet Rudyard Kipling, mobilised against development plans; they were given one month to raise £17,000 to buy the land. The cliffs often serve as a film location, for example standing in for the White Cliffs of Dover.

The park has a visitor centre at Exceat and two car parks. Walking, cycling on the valley floor, canoeing and birdwatching are all possible. The South Downs Way follows the cliff edge and is very undulating. Birling Gap is nearby. Check parking and closures in advance on the park’s website.
