Brockway Mountain Drive is about 8.9 miles (14 km) long and links M-26 near Copper Harbor with M-26 near Eagle Harbor. It follows the ridge of the mountain and climbs to 1,320 feet (402 m) above sea level, about 720 feet (219 m) above Lake Superior. The Keweenaw County Road Commission built it in the 1930s as a Depression-era work-relief project. It is promoted as the highest road between the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachians.
From the summit you get all-round views over Copper Harbor, the lake and the forests of the Keweenaw Peninsula; on a clear day you can see Isle Royale. Without stops, the drive takes 20 to 30 minutes. In spring, raptors migrate over the mountain in large numbers. In winter the road is closed to cars and serves as a snowmobile route.
