Amicalola Falls

Amicalola Falls State Park in Dawson County is home to Georgia's tallest waterfall: 729 feet (222 m) is the official height, while an analysis by the World Waterfall Database puts the main drop at about 429 feet (131 m) plus a gentler stretch of roughly 279 feet (85 m). “Amicalola” comes from Cherokee and means “tumbling waters.” The area is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. The state bought the falls in 1911; since 2012–13 the park has been run jointly with a private company, Coral Hospitality.

A viewing bridge and stairs run alongside the falls. The park is also the start of the 8-mile (13 km) Approach Trail to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the Appalachian Trail; the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club built it in 1958. In the park you will find a lodge with a restaurant, cabins and a campground. The Len Foote Hike Inn, a hikers' lodge, is about 5 miles (8 km) away.
