Arches National Park
Moab, UT
More than 2,000 natural stone arches. Timed-entry reservations are often required in peak season, so check before you go.
The park near Moab has more than 2,000 natural stone arches, along with hundreds of pinnacles, massive fins and balanced rocks. The most famous sight is Delicate Arch: with an opening 14 m (46 feet) high and 10 m (32 feet) wide, it is the largest free-standing arch in the park. The trail there is 4.8 km (3 miles) round trip and climbs steadily for 146 m (480 feet). Without a long hike, you can see the arch from the Lower or Upper Delicate Arch Viewpoint.
Plan a full day for the highlights such as the Windows, Devils Garden and Delicate Arch. At sunset, hundreds of people often crowd around Delicate Arch. Summer heat is dangerous, and rangers frequently have to rescue hikers. In 2026 no timed-entry reservation is needed, but a valid entrance pass is still required (as of October 2026). When parking lots fill up, the park temporarily closes individual areas. Reservations are still required for Devils Garden Campground and Fiery Furnace hikes.
